• Our links with the International Cluster of Information Technologies applied to Tourism are evident: we are veteran partners of an initiative that is also chaired by the CEO and co-founder of Dingus and Hitt Group. So with the award collected this week on the island of Menorca by Jaume Monserrat, we also feel recognized and want to share it with our customers and partners.

The award for Knowledge and Research Applied to Tourism, with which the Government of the Balearic Islands recognises Turistec in 2019, was awarded unanimously by the jury. The International Cluster of Information and Communication Technologies applied to Tourism, based in Mallorca, was awarded during a gala to recognize the effort and dedication in favor of this sector by people, businesses and institutions of the Balearic Islands, with the conviction that, if we want sustainable islands, it is essential to encourage good practices in the tourism industry, the main economic activity of the archipelago”.

Turistec thus receives support for a trajectory that has created and consolidated “the common space of more than 60 members and around twenty entities and research centres with which it collaborates, to highlight the possibilities of the ICT-Tourism tandem”. For this reason, Jaume Monserrat, president of the cluster, offered the award to the partners and collaborators of the project, convinced that “it means both the recognition of the work done to date, as an important incentive to continue in the future. In reality, the objectives remain the same: to make the clustering formula in our respective areas of activity, technological or tourist, contribute to the digital transformation, the development of new business models, and the promotion of socio-economic benefits for our territory“. It is undeniable that, in the same way that the Balearic Islands was a pioneer in the development of the tourist activity, its technological contribution to this industry also leads the innovation of the sector today.

The Night of Tourism, organized by the Tourism Strategy Agency of the Balearic Islands (Aetib), was hosted by the president of the regional government, Francina Armengol, the councillor Iago Negueruela, and the island president of Menorca, Susana Mora. All of them appealed in their speeches to the need to jointly address the imminent challenges, such as “the lengthening of the season occurs on all islands, or that these are economically, socially and environmentally sustainable“.

In addition to Turistec, the winners were the Ibiza International Music Festival and its international piano competition; the Mallorca 312 cycle-tourist competition; the project to reorganise the flow of tourists in the centre of Palma (Mallorca); Formentera.eco; Artiem Fresh People Hotels; Hotel es Convent in Ariany; the lawyer Emilio Balanzó, as well as, posthumously, the lawyer and businessman Alonso Marí Calbet and the pioneer of the world of tourism (the first hotel director in Mallorca) María Fullana. For the Cluster to which we are associated, it is a privilege to share with all of them the recognition to the trajectories, initiatives and accredited efforts.
